How long should you wait before booking about a mark left by a breakout?
A pink or brown mark after a breakout doesn't need an appointment on day one - but knowing when it does is trickier than it sounds. That's the part people usually get stuck on, more than telling colour from texture in the first place.
There's no fixed waiting period, and that's the point
Discolouration - reading pink, red or brown depending on your skin tone - is usually skin still settling after the original inflammation. Texture, on the other hand - raised, pitted or uneven areas, or general roughness from past congestion - tends to hold its shape rather than resolve by itself. The tricky part isn't spotting that difference; it's knowing how long to give a mark before deciding what it actually is.
What affects how quickly a mark settles
There's no set number of weeks that applies to everyone. How long colour takes to calm depends on your skin, how deep the breakout was, and your skin tone - fading can take noticeably longer for some skin tones and deeper marks. Booking in before that settling has happened can mean chasing a plan for a mark that was always going to fade by itself.
A considered, private assessment
At our Seddon rooms, registered nurse Nqobile Nhlebela reviews your skin, your history and how it has healed before suggesting anything. Scarring and texture are softened and managed gradually, with an honest conversation about what is realistic for your particular skin - never a one-visit promise.
If a mark has been around long enough that you're unsure whether it's still settling or here to stay, a private consultation is the clearest next step.
